Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Sam Nartey George, has taken a swipe at Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin following the latter’s claim that he was assaulted by a police officer during the "Save the Judiciary" demonstration held on May 5, 2025.

In a Facebook post that appears to question the sincerity of Afenyo-Markin’s complaint, Mr. George pointed to what he described as irony and double standards, referencing past criticism directed at him over his own encounters with state security operatives.

“The very people who said my words were justification for these attacks by two 'national security' operatives today are slapping a policeman who was simply doing his job?” he posted.

He added, “Hmmmm. This life is truly a cycle. We pray for long life and good health.”

Though Mr. George did not mention Afenyo-Markin by name, the timing and context of his comments suggest a direct response to the Minority Leader’s detailed account of an alleged assault by a police constable at the entrance of Parliament House during the peaceful demonstration.

Afenyo-Markin, who led the march, claimed that a police officer struck him in the chest without provocation, causing him to become disoriented and short of breath.

He has since called for a full investigation into the incident and accused certain individuals and political actors of twisting the narrative.

Sam George’s remarks have added a political dimension to the controversy, raising questions about partisanship and accountability in matters involving law enforcement and public demonstrations.
