Maame Efua Houadjeto engages GTA staff, sets vision for tourism growth
Mrs. Marilyn Maame Efua Houadjeto has met with the staff and management of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) as she assumes leadership, aiming to drive growth, sustainability, and innovation in Ghana’s tourism sector.
Her appointment follows the resignation of former GTA CEO Akwasi Agyeman last week.
As she takes on this new role, Maame Efua is expected to spearhead transformative initiatives to enhance both domestic and international tourism.
A prominent member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Maame Efua previously served as the party’s Deputy National Women’s Organiser.
She also contested in the party’s 2024 parliamentary primaries for the Mfantsiman Constituency.
Beyond politics, she is a seasoned entrepreneur and marketing executive.
She founded Image Consortium Group in 2005, a firm specializing in communications, events, and brand management.
Her professional experience includes roles with Charterhouse Productions, Media Touch, and StratComm Africa, as well as serving as Acting General Manager of MPlaza Hotel.
Maame Efua is an alumnus of Our Lady of Apostles (OLA) Girls Senior High School and holds academic qualifications from the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ), Ghana Institute of Management & Public Administration (GIMPA), and Coventry University, UK.
Her extensive background in marketing, hospitality, and strategic communications positions her well to drive the GTA’s mandate of boosting tourism for economic development.
The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) is one of 13 agencies under the Ministry of Tourism, Culture & Creative Arts (MTCC), tasked with developing the sector to attract local and international tourists.
With her leadership, stakeholders anticipate a revitalized approach to tourism promotion, infrastructure development, and stakeholder engagement.
As Maame Efua steps into this role, the tourism industry looks forward to innovative policies that will enhance Ghana’s global tourism appeal and contribute to sustainable economic growth.
