Jamila Trust calls for women’s empowerment on International Women’s Day

The Executive Chairman of the Jamila Trust for International Development, Dr. Abu Zein, has emphasized the transformative impact of women’s empowerment on communities as the organization marked International Women’s Day.
Speaking at his office in Accra, Dr. Zein highlighted the resilience and determination of women, both locally and globally, calling for greater recognition of their contributions.
“Women are the backbone of their families and communities. They are the ones who keep everything together, who nurture, who care, and who inspire,” he said.
The Jamila Trust reaffirmed its commitment to supporting gender equality initiatives that allow women to thrive and drive broader societal progress. Dr. Zein stressed the importance of ensuring equal opportunities, rights, and representation for women, as well as protecting them from violence and discrimination.
“As we mark this special day, the Jamila Trust for International Development remains dedicated to building a world where women and girls can live free from fear and inequality,” he added.
A global movement
International Women’s Day, celebrated annually on 8 March, recognizes the social, economic, and political achievements of women while advocating for gender equality.
Despite progress in recent years, challenges such as wage gaps, underrepresentation in leadership, and gender-based violence persist in many parts of the world. Organizations like the Jamila Trust continue to push for policies and initiatives that promote women’s rights and economic inclusion.
With this year’s celebrations focused on accelerating action for gender equality, Dr. Zein urged stakeholders to work collectively toward a future where all women and girls can reach their full potential.
