Reality has caught up with the NDC – Dr Gideon Boako jabs

Dr Gideon Boako, Member of Parliament for Tano North, has taken a swipe at the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing them of hypocrisy and dishonesty in their assessment of Ghana’s economic challenges.
In a Facebook post, Dr Boako criticised the NDC for what he described as a shift in narrative, particularly on the impact of COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war.
“You can spread all the propaganda and make all the noise when you’re in opposition, but eventually, reality will catch up with you,” he wrote, referring to recent comments by Environment Minister Murtala Mohammed, who acknowledged the role of external shocks in Ghana’s economic downturn.
Dr Boako pointed out the inconsistency in the NDC’s position, saying, “Just a few months ago, he and the NDC appeared on national television and dishonestly criticised the NPP administration for citing those very same reasons.”
Dr Boako defended the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s handling of the economy during its tenure, insisting that it was not an attempt to shift blame, but a reflection of global realities.
“We did not mislead Ghanaians, nor were we trying to evade responsibility… our opponents chose to ride on cheap propaganda, ignoring the significant and ongoing impacts on the global economy,” he stated.
He likened the NDC’s recent admissions to a reluctant confession, saying, “Now, reality has indeed caught up with them. Like a witch undergoing exorcism, they are beginning to confess—left, right, and centre.”
Highlighting the NPP’s achievements before leaving office, Dr Boako expressed confidence in the party’s legacy.
“Fortunately for them, the NPP government was able to restore the economy to the pre-COVID-19 era before leaving office. We recorded a growth rate of 5.7%, and in nominal terms, a historic GDP of over a trillion cedis – unprecedented in our history,” he said.
He concluded by challenging the current administration to build on what he described as a solid foundation.
