TAGG applauds President Mahama for forward-looking budget

The Traders Advocacy Group Ghana (TAGG) has commended President John Dramani Mahama and the Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, for presenting what they describe as a prudent and forward-looking budget statement.
In a statement signed by TAGG President, Kwadwo Amoateng, the group expressed strong support for key policy changes outlined in the budget, particularly the abolition of the E-Levy, Betting Tax, and other levies, which they believe will provide relief to Ghanaians and stimulate economic growth.
TAGG also lauded the budget’s emphasis on sustainable economic growth, social equity, and infrastructure development.
However, they noted that while Value Added Tax (VAT) reforms were highlighted in the budget presentation, their actual impact is yet to be observed.
The group, therefore, awaits further clarifications on implementation modalities, particularly regarding port levies, which remain a major concern for traders.
Some of the budget’s notable initiatives, TAGG highlighted, include:
Targeted investments in education Distribution of sanitary pads for schoolgirls Support for small enterprises, including the establishment of a Women’s Bank Responsible fiscal management
TAGG believes that if these policies are effectively implemented, they will stimulate innovation, create jobs, and improve public services, contributing to Ghana’s overall economic transformation.
The group further expressed support for the Finance Ministry’s engagement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to restructure the VAT system for long-term sustainability.
They believe these initiatives will enhance the prosperity of Ghanaian businesses and foster economic stability.
TAGG reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with the Finance Ministry and other stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the budget proposals.
