Lawrence Nana Asiamah Hanson, widely known in the music industry as Bullgod, has shared his experiences with the Ghana Police Service during the investigation into the murder of Fennec Okyere, the late manager of musician Kwaw Kese.

In a detailed interview with Okay FM, Bullgod reflected on how the legal process and months-long ordeal impacted him emotionally.

He revealed that while Ghanaian law allows a person acquitted of a crime to sue the police for damages, his case never reached trial.

As a result, he said he was denied the chance for compensation.

“Normally, if someone is taken to court and found not guilty, they can hold the institution accountable.

But in my case, it never got that far. The police claimed there wasn’t enough evidence to proceed, so I was discharged.

They told me that once discharged, I couldn’t claim any compensation,” Bullgod recounted, adding that the experience left him embarrassed and confined in a cell for a month.

Bullgod also criticised the way he was treated, noting that the presumption of innocence promised by the Constitution didn’t reflect his experience.

“I was treated as though I was guilty, even though I hadn’t been proven to have committed the crime. I spent a month in a cell and appeared in court multiple times, only to be discharged. Yet, the stigma lingers — if someone accuses me again, I can still be summoned,” he explained.

He emphasised that the accusations have had a lasting effect on his public reputation. “People still connect my name to the crime despite my innocence, and that perception hasn’t completely disappeared,” Bullgod added.
