Wontumi isn’t the only NPP person cited as ‘galamsey kingpin’ - Kwesi Pratt deflates ‘NDC target Wontumi’ arguments

Veteran journalist Kwesi Pratt has rejected the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) claim that its Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly called “Chairman Wontumi”, was targeted by the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He noted that Wontumi is not the only person in the NPP suspected of being involved in or facilitating galamsey.

According to Mr Pratt, this is an important point in assessing the fairness of Wontumi's prosecution.

"We all know there are other people in the NPP who have been mentioned as being suspected of involvement in galamsey, in much the same way that some people in the NDC were also suspected of involvement in galamsey who have not been prosecuted," he explained.

He made these submissions on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana.

He said it is the responsibility of citizens to ensure that anyone found culpable of engaging in or facilitating galamsey faces the full rigours of the law, regardless of political affiliation.

However, NPP member Collins Adomako-Mensah strongly disagreed, arguing that Chairman Wontumi is a victim of "selective justice" under Attorney-General, Dr Dominic Ayine.
