Class Media Group pays tribute to George Darko, world music star & Highlife music legend

In a heartfelt tribute to one of Ghana’s most iconic Highlife musicians, Class Media Group (CMG), under the leadership of Media, Brands & Culture Icon and Chief Executive Officer King Kwasi Kyei Darkwah, has announced a 10-day celebration in honour of the late George Darko, also known in traditional circles as Nana Ampem Darko I, Tufohene of Akropong, Akuapem.
Dubbed “10 Days of George Darko: The Music of a Legend,” the tribute will run across all CMG platforms — radio, television, and digital — from today, April 23, to Friday, May 2, 2025.
The initiative aims to honour the life, music, and enduring legacy of the man who redefined Highlife and spearheaded the Borga Highlife revolution.
George Darko, a virtuoso guitarist, singer-songwriter, and bandleader, made a lasting impact both locally and on the global stage.
From timeless hits like Highlife Time, Akoo Te Brofo, Moni Palava, Odo Colour, Adikanfo and Soronko, to his electrifying performances at home and abroad, his music showcased the richness of Ghanaian culture and sound.
“This is our tribute to a national treasure and a world music icon,” said King Kwasi Kyei Darkwah. “George Darko’s contribution to music, culture, and national pride is immeasurable.
At Class Media Group, we believe in celebrating our legends and preserving their legacy for future generations.”
The 10-day programming will feature George Darko’s greatest hits, rare interviews, commentary from industry legends, and retrospectives on his musical journey and influence.
Class Media Group is calling on the entire media, culture, and tourism fraternity to join in celebrating a legend whose melodies still move hearts and whose rhythms continue to inspire.
