GTA mourns death of Guinness World Record holder Padiki
The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has mourned the passing of Guinness World Record holder Sharon 'Padiki' Dede Padi, describing her as a symbol of resilience, creativity and youthful excellence.
In a statement signed on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer, Maame Efua Houadjeto, the authority said it received news of her passing with "profound sorrow and deep shock".
The GTA said Padiki's achievements extended beyond her Guinness World Record, noting that she inspired many young Ghanaians through her determination and willingness to pursue ambitious goals.
"Padiki was more than a Guinness World Record holder. She was a beacon of resilience, determination, creativity, and youthful excellence," the statement said.
According to the authority, the renowned visual artist's accomplishment brought pride to both her family and the nation, while encouraging young people to believe that determination and hard work can help them achieve their aspirations.
The GTA described her passing as a significant loss to Ghana's tourism and creative sectors, as well as to the country as a whole.
It said Ghana had lost a young trailblazer whose story reflected innovation, excellence and the potential of the country's youth.
Maame Efua Houadjeto, together with the management and staff of the authority, extended condolences to Padiki's family, friends and loved ones.
"We pray that the Almighty grants them strength, comfort, and peace during this incredibly difficult time," the statement said.
The authority added that although Padiki's life had ended abruptly, her legacy would continue to inspire others.
"Her impact will remain etched in our hearts, and her memory will forever be cherished. Ours are the many questions, but God alone has the answers. May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace," the statement concluded.
