EPA orders closure of Dukes fuel station at Kasoa over choked drains
The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has ordered the immediate closure of Dukes Fuel Station at Kasoa Second Bus Stop over poor sanitation after choked drains at the frontage of the facility were found to be contributing to flooding along the highway.
The action forms part of an ongoing municipal clean-up exercise aimed at improving environmental sanitation and reducing flood risks.
Speaking in an interview, the EPA Kasoa Area Head, Abbas Dawood, said the blocked drains had been causing rainwater to overflow onto the main road, posing a danger to both motorists and pedestrians.
He noted that despite the unsanitary conditions around the premises, the fuel station had continued to operate. Following an inspection, the Municipal Assembly directed that the station be closed until the drains are desilted and all sanitation-related concerns are addressed.
Mr Dawood said the EPA and the Municipal Assembly would continue to enforce environmental regulations to ensure businesses comply with sanitation standards and help reduce the risk of flooding in the area.
