GTDC unveils strategic initiatives to boost Ghana’s tourism sector
The Ghana Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) is pursuing a number of strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening Ghana’s tourism industry, Board Chairman Mr. Ben Ohene Ayeh has announced.
Addressing a press briefing, Mr. Ayeh highlighted projects such as the Ghana Tourism Marketplace, which is expected to provide a more efficient platform for accessing and promoting tourism services and products.
He also referenced the Ghana Tourism Investment Platform, a key initiative designed to attract and facilitate investment in tourism enterprises.
He further revealed that the Corporation is working on innovative ventures, including Crab by Night and a fleet pool marketing service, describing them as evidence of GTDC’s drive for innovation and operational excellence.
Mr. Ayeh commended the CEO, Professor Kobby Mesah, and his team for their dedication to expanding GTDC’s commercial footprint and strengthening the organisation’s brand.
He expressed optimism that these interventions will significantly enhance the tourism landscape and contribute meaningful value to the sector.
Meanwhile, Felicity Nelson outlined GTDC’s core responsibilities, emphasising its role in mobilising local and international investment to support tourism development.
He explained that the Corporation identifies high-potential tourism projects and pairs them with suitable partners while also engaging in equity participation in joint ventures with Ghanaian businesses and global investors.
GTDC also offers financial and technical support to small enterprises within the tourism value chain, helping to build a stronger and more sustainable industry ecosystem.
Beyond financing, Miss Nelson noted that GTDC manages major tourist sites and offers key commercial services, including vehicle rentals, tour services, hospitality operations, and event management.
The Corporation also plans to scale up its activities in the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) sector with a goal to position Ghana as Africa’s leading destination for business tourism.
With ongoing initiatives such as the Tourism Marketplace, the Investment Platform, and innovative projects like Crab by Night, GTDC says it remains committed to driving growth, innovation, and investment in Ghana’s tourism sector.
