Guru is being sabotaged by the SRC – Campaign speaker
Guru NKZ is the victim of sabotage, according to the lead speaker for his presidential campaign.
Andy Asante Okyere Mensah spoke exclusively to Prince Benjamin (PB) on Entertainment Capital on Accra 100.5 FM, Saturday, August 17, 2024.
Guru has been disqualified in the Students' Representative Council (SRC) presidential race at the University of Ghana (UG), Legon, Accra. According to the UG-SRC Vetting Committee, after their August 11 vetting, it was discovered Guru was a nonresident student of the tertiary institution automatically disqualifying him per the UG-SRC constitution.
"Let's do things right and be honest about it.
"Guru would have won the election by a landslide, hands down. This is what some people want to avoid. It's definitely [a sabotage]," Andy Asante Okyere Mensah said.
He declined to name names but clarified it was not a UG management-led sabotage but one by "the students, the student body, the SRC".
"We're working on [investigating] it and at the appropriate time, we'll know those behind it," Okyere Mensah disclosed.
He said the protocol to address the controversy was to write to the election commission (EC) for an explanation for Guru's disqualification; petition the judiciary board of the UG-SRC; and write to the Dean of Students and other school leaders.
“We’re trying as a team to exhaust the internal mechanism to see what comes of it" before any escalation, he added.
Okyere Mensah expressed confidence that when the matter is taken to the UG management, "they will justly decide whether he can compete being resident or nonresident" per a constitutional reform he argued with.
Maradona Adjei Yeboah (Guru) and Jeffery Adu-Yeboah (Jay Lit) campaigned for the UG-SRC presidential and vice presidential offices, respectively, as Maralit.
As a level 300 student of UG, this is Guru's last chance to campaign for the presidential office of the UG-SRC.
Entertainment Capital producer Eugene Baah reached out to Guru for a comment. He declined per legal advice.
