The long-anticipated Surveying Council and Licensing Bill, designed to regulate the practice of surveying and restore professional standards in Ghana, is set to receive renewed focus as a key priority of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources in the coming year.

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Mr. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has given firm assurances that the Bill will be passed, describing it as a critical step toward introducing structure, accountability and professionalism into the surveying sector.

He noted that the legislation would also strengthen land administration systems and contribute to government revenue mobilisation.

Speaking at an engagement with the Ghana Institute of Surveyors (GhIS) on Thursday, December 18, 2025, the Minister said the Bill was long overdue and underscored the importance of effective licensing, particularly in specialised areas such as cadastral surveying.

According to him, regulating and properly licensing surveyors will help organise practitioners, curb unprofessional practices and improve the quality of services delivered across the land and natural resources sector.

The proposed legislation is expected to provide a comprehensive framework for overseeing the activities of surveyors, ensuring adherence to professional standards and enhancing public confidence in land-related services.
