'Hypocritical music space': DopeNation fumes over TGMAs 2025 Group of the Year omission

Hiplife duo DopeNation are not pleased, to say the least, about being left out of the nomination for the return of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs) Group of the Year category.
DopeNation won the accolade in 2020. They felt robbed in 2021, when Keche bagged the award.
In 2022, the category was rested.
“Group of the Year… I think that the year it was rested was because it was no longer competitive hence no category for it. We are not saying it had been scrapped off, but we are resting it until such a time we feel we have enough numbers in the space to compete for it. It is supposed to be competitive,” Robert Klah, the Head of Communications for Charterhouse, organisers of the TGMA, explained on Hitz FM in 2024.
For the 2025 TGMAs, the category has returned, with the nominees being: Lali x Lola, Bethel Revival Choir, Keche, Kwan Pa, and Team Eternity Ghana (TEG).
On X, when DopeNation wrote on March 18, 2025, "We are legends," radio personality DJ Slim reacted, "I’m hearing, you guys didn’t file for nominations and when the research team picked up your songs, you guys were not responsive to the award scheme. How true is this?"
DopeNation answered, noting it was facing undue opposition. However, it did not want to get into specifics. The record production and rap duo, bemoaned what they were going through was not healthy and was endangering the progress of the music industry.
"We have been battling a lot that can’t be said out of respect for some people in this hypocritical music space. However, can we all recall from 2021? Maybe some of us will know this is not just about awards, Sir. Gradually this industry will be loosing its 'TRUE ARTISTS'," the serial hitmakers said.
