Ghanaian musician Kelvyn Boy has responded to criticism surrounding his smoking habits, asking the public to show understanding rather than judgment.

The singer opened up about the backlash he experiences whenever clips of him smoking circulate online.

He explained that, like many creatives, he faces personal challenges that fans may not fully comprehend, and smoking sometimes serves as a coping mechanism.

He said this in a conversation with Nana Romeo, shared on Instagram

“When we smoke, people complaint. They talk about cigarettes, too. But you don’t know what we are going through. If you did, you might react the same way,” he remarked.

Kelvyn Boy also appealed for respect regarding his personal choices, pointing out that his lifestyle does not involve criminal activity.

“Let me live my life. I haven’t committed any robbery or harmed anyone, so please leave me alone,” he said.

The singer highlighted a perceived double standard in how local and foreign artists are treated.

He noted that Nigerian musicians often participate in similar activities in their videos without attracting criticism, whereas Ghanaians are quick to comment on local artists doing the same.

“Nigerians come here and do what they want in their videos, and nobody complains.

But when we do something similar, Ghanaians speak up. We just want the freedom to live our lives without constant judgment,” he added.
