Allegations of sexual abuse, extortion rocks collapsed Royal Nursing Training College
Serious allegations have emerged from some former students of Royal Nursing Training College in the Ashanti Region, who claim that many students experienced harassment, mistreatment, and poor conditions while studying at the institution.
According to the past student, the school allegedly lacked a proper administrative structure and official platforms for students to report concerns or receive guidance.
She claimed that activities in the school were largely controlled by the proprietor and his wife, who reportedly handled most matters personally.
She made this revelation about the school while speaking in an interview on the Ghana Yensom morning show on Accra 100.5 FM, hosted by Chief Jerry Forson on Tuesday
The former student alleged that the proprietor, only named as King Owusu, frequently mistreated female students and sometimes punished them harshly, walking to their hostels in the deep hours of the night.
She claimed that some students were beaten with objects such as sticks and were often verbally insulted.
The students further alleged that female students were subjected to harassment and intimidation.
According to her account, some students felt pressured to comply with inappropriate demands from the school owner in order to avoid humiliation or punishment.
Those who refused, she said, were sometimes insulted publicly and treated unfairly.
She alleged King Owusu planted a Closed Circuit Television(CCTV) in the bathroom of the girls where he spies on their nakedness periodically.
In her testimony, the former student also claimed that the proprietor occasionally entered female hostels without permission. She alleged that when doors were locked, they were sometimes forced open.
Another concern raised by the former student was how the school reportedly handled official inspections.
She alleged that whenever inspectors were expected, students were temporarily sent away from the premises.
The former student, who described herself as one of the victims, said she decided to speak out so that authorities and the public would become aware of what she claims happened at the school.
As of now, there has been no official response from the management of Royal Nursing Training College regarding the allegations.
Meanwhile, the school has been shut down by GTEC for lack of accreditation.
