Kisa Gbekle: Actress recounts her miscarriage at 17
“Very early, around the age of 17,” actress Kisa Gbekle became pregnant while she was with her mother in an undisclosed village.
She revealed this in an interview with Nana Romeo on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ayekoo Ayekoo.
The father of her child, she said “died”.
“He was swimming when the sea took him away,” she explained.
The socialite said though she was willing to keep the pregnancy, “out of frustration, I lost the baby”.
Not only that, according to her, she wanted to take her own life, also, “because the guy died”.
Romeo expressed shock at her pregnancy and miscarriage as a teenager.
In response, Kisa said she was much bigger when she was younger compared to her current stature.
What is more, “I didn’t know my age – I didn’t know I was 17,” she added.
In her defence, the filmmaker noted the documents on her birth were kept by her illiterate mother who did not give them much attention.
Thus, according to her, she was even surprised when she eventually saw her birth documents, discovering she was only 17.
The conversation was occasioned by Romeo asking if Kisa had any regrets in life.
She said there was none, citing her teenage pregnancy.
However, she appeared to have made peace with the events of her teenage years.
“If that guy hadn’t died I would have been in the village with three or four kids – like my mates – at the end of the day,” she observed.
Kisa Gbleke noted this proved while life may be extremely tough at some points, “with time, it’s going to work [out]”.
