The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has launched its golden jubilee celebration which will take place in 2025.

To champion musicians' rights and interests, promote the music industry, and conserve Ghana's music history, MUSIGA was established on December 9, 1975.

At the launch of its 50th anniversary celebration, Thursday, November 7, 2024, at the Accra Tourist Information Centre (ATIC), Highlife virtuoso and MUSIGA President Bessa Simons said in 2025, the union will celebrate with many fun activities, lectures, symposiums, dinner gala, among others, involving local and international stars.

“There will be outdoors, there will be in-doors, there will be church programmes, and we're thinking about bringing Cece Winans and co here, to collaborate with our artistes, so that at the end of next year, there will be harmony between us and artistes from all over the world," he emphasised.

The chief event, he announced, however, will be an all-women festival.

"So we are inviting female musicians from all over the world," he added, indicating: "All the embassies will publish it, so we are expecting women to come to Ghana and then they will mount the stage."

Simons clarified the festival was "self-sponsored if you are coming from outside".

Apart from underlining the need for musicians to seek music education to enhance their creativity and performances, Bessa Simons stressed: “By supporting MUSIGA, musicians will benefit from various initiatives aimed at improving their welfare and promoting the growth of the music industry.”

The Executive Director of the National Commission on Culture (NCC), Nana Otuo Owoahene Acheampong, is the Chairman of MUSIGA's golden jubilee celebration.
