Maame Dokono to launch book on life and relationship with Konadu Agyemang Rawlings; ‘she dragged me into politics’
Ghanaian actress and storyteller Maame Dokono, born Grace Omaboe, has emphasised she never dated the late President Jerry John Rawlings.
“I was never the girlfriend of President Rawlings,” she said on Tuesday, July 30, 2024.
The By the Fireside star spoke at an event at the Silverbird Cinemas to mark her 80th birth anniversary and 60 years of her acting career.
She also said it was the former president’s wife, Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, who “dragged me into politics”.
Eventually, “I joined both [main] parties [NDC and NPP],” Maame Dokono said, bemoaning: “And if your party doesn’t win [in elections] you suffer and I really suffered for it. So I left politics.”
In a 2017 interview with Delay, the veteran actress explained her relationship with former First Lady Konadu Agyemang Rawlings was ruined because she switched to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The Obra star also revealed on Tuesday she was launching a book titled Unforgettable on August 7. She explained it would cover her life, her 6 children and their births by C-section, her career, and details of her relationship with the named first lady.
