NkrumahFest 2025: Leaders call for action on Nkrumah’s legacy

As Ghana marks the 116th birthday of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, his hometown of Nkroful has once again come alive with celebrations for this year’s NkrumahFest.
The festival, which has grown into a major cultural and historical event, continues to draw leaders, residents, and visitors who seek to honour the first President of Ghana.
Addressing the gathering, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, Member of Parliament for Ellembelle and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, urged Ghanaians to go beyond ceremonial tributes and instead live out Nkrumah’s vision as a roadmap for national development.
He called on citizens to join the fight against illegal mining (galamsey), which he described as a direct threat to the future of the country.
The Minister of Tourism, Dzifa Gomashie, also highlighted the increasing significance of NkrumahFest, noting that it has now become a fixture on Ghana’s tourism calendar due to its historical depth and cultural value.
Similarly, the Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson, encouraged Ghanaians to embrace Nkrumah’s principles of discipline, hard work, and unity, stressing that his ideals should guide everyday life rather than be remembered only during annual celebrations.
The festival continues with music, cultural performances, and exhibitions, attracting both locals and tourists.
For the people of Nkroful, the growing prominence of NkrumahFest has renewed hopes that the town will soon rise as a major tourism destination, keeping alive the legacy of the man who led Ghana to independence.
