Ohemaa Mercy rebukes Christian personality worship, grieves: 'Lying preachers have larger following'
Ohemaa Mercy has worriedly observed the lack of discernment among Christians.
The Gospel star spoke to Nana Romeo on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ayekoo Ayekoo, Thursday, July 11, 2024.
Romeo opined the preaching of some church leaders was unprofitable to God’s children.
“That’s true,” Ohemaa Mercy responded.
“If indeed the spirit of God is within you as you sit in the chapel listening to the preacher’s lies and deception, he [the spirit] will warn you through the discernment spirit and tell you you’re at the wrong place,” she added.
The singer-songwriter lamented “a lot of Christians are at the wrong place,” noting, with visible concern, that “the lying preachers [ironically] have the larger following”.
She argued the phenomenon is due to “a lot of people looking [up to] man and not God”.
The award-winning Gospel artiste rebuked the personality worship on the part of Christians and the abuse of power by religious leaders.
“We are constantly lied to because we feel the God is the person standing there. We believe in man more than God,” she said, perplexed that even bodily fluids like “urine” and “spittle” from religious leaders are considered hallowed by some.
“Some will collect the spittle and apply it on themselves because they see the person as God,” Ohemaa Mercy bemoaned, strongly warning: “Be very careful!”
“Mind what you are doing because you are on slippery ground,” she cautioned.
She again wondered why “we know the truth” nowadays “but have become slaves to fellow humans”.
Despite the worrying trend, Ohemaa Mercy took time to encourage her audience to put aside their desperation expressed in chasing after men of God and rather passionately work on their relationship with God.
“There’s a God who answers prayer in a twinkle of an eye. The only issue is you are not friends with him and so you see him so far away. You have now thought to yourself he is in humans so you have also put your trust in humans,” the Ote Me Mu hitmaker admonished.
Expressing shock at the extraordinary miracles lying preachers use as baits, she cited: “They’ll even promise to heal a decapitated man.”
“I plead for the mercy of God,” the humanitarian and Edin Jesus hitmaker prayed.
