IGP Special Operations Team arrests suspect in Kpalsi over suspected Indian Hemp
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Special Operations Team has arrested a young man in Kpalsi following a distress call about suspected drug activity in the area.
According to police sources, the team responded to information that a man identified as Hashim was in possession of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp at his residence.
However, by the time officers arrived at the location, the suspect had fled.
A thorough search of the surrounding area led to the arrest of another young man, Mohammed Alhassan, who was found at the suspect’s residence and was believed to have visited Hashim shortly before the police operation.
During interrogation, Mohammed Alhassan reportedly told officers that he initially intended to burn the suspected Indian hemp, but was discouraged by a friend who advised him that the substance had significant monetary value.
He allegedly stated that the consignment could be sold for about GHS80,000.
Police say investigations are ongoing to locate the prime suspect, Hashim, and to establish the full circumstances surrounding the suspected drug possession and intended sale.
The seized substance is expected to undergo forensic analysis to confirm its nature.
The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to intensifying operations against drug-related activities and has urged the public to continue providing timely information to help combat crime in communities.
