Okudzeto-Ablakwa inaugurates smart classrooms to boost STEM education in North Tongu
The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Mr. Samuel Okudzeto-Ablakwa, has inaugurated two smart classroom projects in the North Tongu Constituency of the Volta Region as part of efforts to strengthen Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education in the area.
The projects, which were made possible through a partnership with the Government of China, were implemented with the support of the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Tong Defa.
Mr. Okudzeto-Ablakwa expressed gratitude to the Chinese government and ambassador for what he described as an impactful collaboration aimed at enhancing quality education.
The newly opened smart classrooms are fully equipped with internet connectivity, smartboards, tablets, solar panels, and relevant digital educational content designed to support interactive teaching and learning, particularly in STEM-related subjects.
This phase of the project covers two Senior High Schools in the constituency — Battor Senior High School (BASEC) and Abor Senior High Technical School (ABAST).
According to the Minister, the partnership arrangement saw the project partners provide the STEM equipment and solar power systems, while he facilitated the construction and infrastructural components of the classrooms.
He noted that the initiative forms part of broader efforts to prepare students in North Tongu for the demands of the digital economy, bridge the technology gap in public schools and ensure equitable access to modern learning tools.
School authorities and students welcomed the intervention, describing it as a major boost to teaching, learning and academic performance, particularly in science and technology disciplines.
