Insurance Commissioner commends IBAG leadership, urges action to improve penetration
The Commissioner of Insurance, Dr Abiba Zakariah, has commended the leadership of the Insurance Brokers Association of Ghana (IBAG) for its efforts in bringing insurance services closer to the public and improving the performance of insurance brokers nationwide.
She noted that over the years, IBAG has played a key role in transforming the insurance brokerage industry and enhancing professionalism within the sector.
Dr Zakariah made the remarks at the investiture of the 11th President and the swearing-in of the new Executive Council of IBAG in Accra.
Addressing the long-standing concern of low insurance uptake, she said the oft-cited one per cent insurance penetration rate must no longer define the industry’s narrative.
“This narrative must change,” she said, adding that the new leadership has a responsibility to reposition the sector and drive higher penetration levels.
She challenged the newly sworn-in executives to take bold and innovative steps to expand access to insurance products and increase public confidence in the industry.
“As leaders in driving insurance penetration, it is time for a more credible and progressive narrative than what we have relied on over the years,” she stressed.
Dr Zakariah further urged the new IBAG leadership to live up to expectations and work collaboratively with regulators and industry stakeholders to deepen insurance awareness and inclusion nationwide.
