Osinachi: 'Ekwueme' hitmaker's husband sentenced to death by hanging

Peter Nwachukwu has been sentenced to death by hanging over the death of his wife and late Nigerian gospel singer Osinachi.
Nwachukwu was found guilty of culpable homicide regarding his wife’s demise on April 8, 2022.
Justice Nwosu-Iheme of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, Nigeria, pronounced the sentence on Monday, April 28, 2025, after noting the prosecution had proven their case beyond reasonable doubt.
Arraigned by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (OAGF) on behalf of the Federal Government on June 3, 2022, Nwachukwu had 23-count charges including culpable homicide punishable with death, criminal intimidation, cruelty to children, criminal intimidation of children, and spousal battery, among others.
Seventeen witnesses were called during the trial, including two children of the late Osinachi, who testified as prosecution witnesses.
Reginald Nwali, Nwachukwu’s lawyer, prayed the court for clemency. However, the prosecution, led by Mrs Aderonke Imala, appealed to the court to apply the law with full force.
Eventually, Nwachukwu was convicted and sentenced to death by hanging on count one, and to two years’ imprisonment each on counts two, three, eight, 9, 12, 13, and 18.
He was, also, sentenced to six months’ imprisonment on count 10, three years’ imprisonment on count 11, and fined N500,000, and N200,000, respectively, on counts six and seven, respectively.
He can appeal.
