According to Black Avenue Muzik star signee Sefa, born Sefadzi Abena Amesu, Ghanaians abroad have no real reason not to support their fellows who visit their countries of residence.

Ghanaian musicians constantly put out “amazing music,” Sefa said, noting that, according to event organisers and promoters, it curiously takes augmenting a Ghanaian artiste with a Nigerian artiste to attract the masses, including Ghanaians patrons, to shows.

Sefa spoke to Nana Romeo on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ayekoo Ayekoo, Thursday, September 28, 2023.

Romeo wondered if Sefa has tried to find out why Ghanaians abroad do not actively patronise shows by visiting Ghanaian artistes.

“They don’t have a reason. They don’t have a reason,” S3fa initially responded.

She added, however, that “in conversations” with “one or two promoters,” she has learned the simple answer to the question is “the people don’t want to come for the show. The people [just] will not come”.

Romeo probed for a reason.

“So, you know, sometimes, there are other promoters outside who are really looking for Ghanaian shows. They want to push the Ghanaians out there and now their problem would be, ‘Okay, I want to put this Ghanaian artiste [on a show] so which Nigerian artiste can I add to have the people come?’

“But the Ghanaians are there, a lot. They just don’t want to support. And that’s the funny thing because they’ll start saying, ‘Oh, the artistes are not good, they are not doing good but we put out amazing music all the time,” Sefa bemoaned.

The E Choke hitmaker also said it is absolutely untrue that Ghanaian stars are unfriendly and are in the habit of refusing to interact with fans outside the context of music concerts.

In fact, Ghanaian artistes are the friendlier bunch compared to their Nigerian counterparts, contrary to some public opinions, she said.

Sefa said Ghanaian stars would go to any length to keep their fans happy and supportive and this is why, unlike their Nigerian fellows, Ghanaians keep do not “speak their minds” to their fans, especially on social media.

On what Nigerians really have over Ghanaian entertainers, the award-winning star observed: “Nigerians are all over the place and they are always promoting, no matter where you go. Even when you go to Nigeria, the promoters want their own Nigerian artistes because they know where to put them and place them so it’s just the support.”
