Strongman asserts GOAT status with TGMA trophy for buttress
"Finally," Strongman has received the accolade he has long fought for.
The Kumasi-based rapper was crowned the Best Rap Performer at the just-ended 2024 Ghana Music Awards, sponsored by Telecel Ghana.
Last year, in a TV3 interview, Strongman noted he was the only rap act to be nominated in the category four times in a row. However, he lamented he had never won. His 2024 nomination made it his fifth in a row and that ended in his praise.
On Facebook, he asserted this win meant "finally, the best rapper" in Ghana had "won the Best Rapper" award. With goat and smile emojis, he signalled contentment at being the Greatest of All Time (GOAT).
For his fifth consecutive nomination, during the award scheme's 25th anniversary, Strongman with his Dear God performance went up against genre mates like Amerado (The Hardest), Eno Barony (Warning), Fimfim (Bosiako), Lyrical Joe (5th August (7)), Medikal (We Made It), and his former SarkCess Music label boss Sarkodie (Otan).
Dear God is the sixth out of seven songs on Strongman's new EP, God & Rap, released on April 26. The tape has guest verses from DopeNation, King Paluta, Kweku Darlington and SevenKisz.
Meanwhile, in the aforementioned interview, Strongman, born Vincent Kwaku Osei, outlined three benefits of awards: "One, it motivates you. Two, it gives you a competitive advantage over your peers. Assuming there should be an endorsement deal or something, since you won an award, they'll pick you over the other people. Lastly, it makes you feel your sweat has been rewarded. For all your emotions, and these kind of tweets which people insulted you with, if they mention your name that you've won the best rapper, it makes you feel like, 'Yo, finally I've been honoured'."
