Tourism Minister launches "Accra by Night" to boost night tourism

Organised by the Ghana Tourism Authority in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and other allied agencies, the event aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s vision of building a 24-hour economy.
The initiative is designed to energize the tourism and creative sectors by showcasing Ghana’s rich traditions, hospitality, and entertainment offerings in the nighttime economy.
Speaking at the launch, Minister Gomashie noted that "Accra by Night" would open new avenues for artists, entertainers, and service providers, while spotlighting Ghanaian music, cuisine, and the renowned warmth of its people.
“This is not just about nightlife,” she said. “It is about creating economic opportunity, celebrating our culture, and building a sustainable, inclusive creative economy.”
The immersive experience promises to feature live music, local delicacies, and scenic nighttime views across the capital—mirroring the excitement of the famed "Accra by Night" concerts previously held at the University of Ghana's Great Hall.
Minister Gomashie further emphasised the Ministry’s commitment to innovation and urged creatives and entrepreneurs to be part of the journey.
She encouraged attendees and future participants to document their experiences using a dedicated hashtag to promote Ghana’s nightlife to a global audience.
The launch culminated in a massive nighttime tour of Accra’s central business district, where hundreds of participants explored the city's vibrant evening atmosphere, interacted with local vendors, and observed how businesses thrive after dark.
"Accra by Night" is seen as a major step toward diversifying Ghana’s tourism offerings and strengthening the creative industry. Stakeholders believe the initiative could become a catalyst for job creation, economic growth, and a more dynamic urban culture in the capital and beyond.
