'We're not okay in the head comparing me, a full package, to new dancers', says Slim Buster
Dance champion and music star Slim Buster has expressed profound displeasure at how he is often compared to the new crop of dancers in Ghana.
The UK-based Ghanaian spoke to Summy Brown on Accra 100.5 FM.
He said he had seen the videos on social media, citing TikTok and X, claiming his dancing was poor.
Slim Buster asserted the comparison was warped, when his versatility and legacy was beyond that of any newbie in the country.
"They are comparing a whole sound engineer, a musician, a professional, as well as a dance champion to dancers in Ghana," he noted.
He grieved over seeing people he deemed as "intellectuals" making these comparisons, and wondered, "why, is it that they lack wisdom, or what?"
The Hiplife star asserted he was not just a dancer but "a full package" who could do "everything" in music.
"I can write, compose, perform, record, mix, master, and promote my own music. All my albums were promoted by me, no one else helped, and I became a superstar," he explained.
"How then do you compare me to someone who is only a dancer? It shows we are not okay in the head. It's like comparing a popular dancer in America to Michael Jackson. It's bad but I don't blame them..."
Slim Buster won a national dance championship, Embassy Double Do, in the 80s, and represented Ghana in the UK. When he returned, he was mentored by the 70s dance champion and music star Gee Man, alias Ghana Michael Jackson. Buster has multiple hit songs, including Masan Aba, Masherita, Etoile-Monica, etc.
His latest release is Konkonsa featuring Nana Quame.
He noted he had a number of unreleased songs with Joint77, too, as he was looking at "creeping in slowly" back into active music business.
