Opoku-Agyemang, EU Ambassador, deepens dialogue on partnership, peace, and trade
Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has held talks with the European Union (EU) Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Rune Skinnebach, aimed at reinforcing bilateral ties and advancing regional cooperation.
Welcoming the Ambassador to her office, the Vice President stressed the need for genuine and mutually beneficial partnerships, especially in an evolving global climate.
She called for a thorough review of existing agreements to close gaps and ensure that cooperation is anchored in fairness, respect, and shared strategic priorities.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang underscored the centrality of peace to national and regional development, advocating proactive measures over reactive responses.
“Peace is the cornerstone of progress. Adopting a preventative approach to security challenges is far more effective, sustainable, and cost-efficient than reacting after crises occur,” she noted, adding that early action and strong institutional collaboration are essential to preserving stability.
The meeting also discussed new prospects emerging across the continent, with particular emphasis on the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
The Vice President reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to leveraging the AfCFTA to boost its role as a regional hub for trade, investment, and integration.
She expressed appreciation for the EU’s longstanding partnership with Ghana and reiterated the government’s commitment to deepening cooperation to promote stability, prosperity, and shared growth.
