Ashanti Region to mark Kente Week from March 23–31 under AshantiFest 2026
The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council has announced the celebration of Ashanti Kente Week from March 23 to March 31, 2026, as part of activities marking AshantiFest 2026 and Ghana Month.
In a press release issued in Kumasi on March 13, the council said the initiative aims to promote and celebrate the region’s cultural heritage while encouraging pride in Kente cloth, which is widely recognised as a symbol of identity, craftsmanship and tradition.
The council has called on government institutions, corporate organisations and public service establishments across the region to encourage their staff to incorporate elements of Kente into their attire during the week.
According to the release, participants may wear full Kente cloth or integrate Kente-inspired accessories such as scarves, ribbons, ties, bow ties, pocket squares, lapel pins, brooches, belts, headbands and other subtle Kente designs into their corporate wear.
Churches, mosques and other religious bodies have also been encouraged to invite their congregations to incorporate Kente into their attire during services throughout the celebration.
Institutions and religious organisations may climax their participation on Friday, March 27, Saturday, March 28, or Sunday, March 29, depending on their respective worship days.
The week-long celebration will culminate in a grand event on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at the Kumasi Cultural Centre. The event, organised in collaboration with the Manhyia Palace, will feature cultural displays, a traditional food fair, and a music and jama festival highlighting the history, cuisine and musical heritage of the Ashanti people.
The council has encouraged institutions and residents across the region to actively participate in the celebration to promote cultural identity and support local artisans and the Kente industry.
