Tem Awurana Council gears up for 2024 Maari Bowu festival celebrations
The Greater Accra Region is set to celebrate the 2024 Maari Bowu Festival under the theme, "Celebrating Tem Heritage: Our Culture, Our Voice in Ghana’s Future," organized by the Tem Awurana Council.
The festival promises a vibrant celebration of Tem culture, drawing together community members and dignitaries from across the country.
The event will welcome esteemed attendees, including the Greater Accra Regional Tem Kotokoli Chief and President of the Tem Awurana Council, Wuro Alhaji Salifu Haruna (Kaaka Laasi Waagbor Faala), and the overlord of Tem Kotokoli Ghana, Dawood Chedre Brenai II, who also serves as President of the Tem Divisional Council Ghana.
Adding a significant political presence to the festivities, former President John Mahama and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia are confirmed as the festival’s distinguished guests of honour.
Kicking off the celebration will be the grand finale of the Miss Tem Ghana pageant, where Tem Aliya Kozor will be crowned.
The event, showcasing the beauty and poise of young women representing the Tem community, is set for Thursday, November 14, 2024, at the National Theater, starting at 3:00 pm.
The festivities continue on Friday, November 15, 2024, with a traditional Horse Procession and Awenja Dance at the Madina Zongo Zura Park, also known as Sakora Park, beginning at 3:00 pm.
This colorful spectacle will showcase traditional horse dancing, a cherished element of Tem culture.
The festival will conclude with a grand durbar of chiefs at the Madina Astro Turf Park, where leaders and community members will come together to celebrate the rich heritage of the Tem people.
