7 courts closed in northern Ghana due to renewed Bawku clashes
Seven courts have been closed in northern Ghana after renewed clashes in Bawku due to chieftaincy disputes.
This was communicated via a Tuesday, October 29, 2024, statement from the desk of the Judicial Secretary, signed by Justice Cyra Pamela C. A. Koranteng JA.
"The attention of the Honourable Lady Chief has been drawn to concerns expressed by lawyers and other stakeholders about the current situation in Bawku and its environs," the statement said.
The statement explained the move was "to ensure the safety and security of judges, staff, lawyers and court users".
It noted the closure was done on the authority of "the Honourable Lady Chief Justice," adding the closure was to take "immediate effect," and hold "until further notice".
The seven affected courts are:
1. High Court, Bolgatanga.
2. Circuit Court, Bolgatanga.
3. District Court, Bolgatanga.
4. District Court, Zuarungu.
5. District Court, Zebilla.
6. District Court, Garu.
7. District Court, Bongo.
"Registrars are to keep asserts of the courts in proper custody and al staff are to stay safe," the statement concluded.
