Matthew Opoku Prempeh's aide denies inflammatory remarks against Gas and Ewes
Mr Fifi Boafo, the spokesperson for Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Vice Presidential Candidate popularly known as Napo, has debunked viral social media reports claiming that Dr. Prempeh made derogatory remarks about Ghana’s Ga and Ewe communities.
The viral post alleged that Dr. Prempeh had stated, "Gas and Ewes are the problems of Ghana" and suggested, "Historically, they should not have been part of Ghana."
In response, Boafo took to Facebook to refute these statements as entirely false and urged the public not to fall for such misinformation.
Acknowledging the heightened political climate in an election year, Mr Boafo expressed understanding of people’s eagerness to stay informed but cautioned against the quick spread of unverified news.
"I understand that in today's digital world, especially during an election year, people are eager to catch up on the latest news," he stated, emphasizing the need for vigilance in distinguishing fact from fiction.
He encouraged readers to protect their mental and emotional well-being by being cautious about sources of information.
"Avoid raising your blood pressure over questionable quotes on flyers or from dubious websites that often spread fake news," he advised, expressing frustration over the spread of divisive misinformation.
Mr Boafo concluded by underscoring the importance of fact-checking, reminding the public that election seasons are often rife with fabricated stories.
"Always verify what you encounter online," he urged, "and refrain from sharing anything that you haven’t confirmed."
