Addo-Kufuor denies being Ghana's 3rd richest with $1.2bn net worth
Former Defence Minister Kwame Addo-Kufuor has refuted claims of being the third wealthiest individual in Ghana.
His legal representatives have issued a statement denouncing these allegations as "malicious and baseless misinformation aimed at tarnishing their client's well-established reputation."
These assertions arose from a voice recording circulating on TikTok, asserting that Dr. Addo-Kufuor possesses a net worth of $1.2 billion and has investments in various sectors, including banking, agriculture, media, and mining.
Dr. Addo-Kufuor's legal team has rejected these claims, emphasising that their client's financial assets have been duly declared to the Auditor-General and are a matter of public record.
They have expressed their client's readiness to demand concrete evidence from the anonymous source making these allegations.
The statement further highlighted Dr. Addo-Kufuor's distinguished career, including his successful medical practice and tenure as a Member of Parliament from 1997 to 2009.
Additionally, it noted his roles as Defence Minister and, briefly, Minister for the Interior during President Kufuor's administration, as well as his appointment as Board Chairman of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) during President Akufo-Addo's first term.
Dr. Addo-Kufuor's legal team has challenged the anonymous individual responsible for these claims to reveal their identity and provide substantiated proof.
They have indicated their readiness to pursue legal action for defamation against those responsible for this damaging campaign of character assassination.
"We have the firm and unqualified instructions of our client to state in no uncertain terms that he has no such levels of money and will exact the strictest proof of this vain allegation from the individual who is conveniently enjoying anonymity,” the statement noted, adding: "The record of our client is well-known. He has been a successful physician who even lectured medicine at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology".
“His political life has been exemplary", the statement said.
