All eyes on Parliament as Mahama delivers State of the Nation Address today
All eyes are on Parliament today as President John Dramani Mahama delivers his State of the Nation Address (SONA), outlining the government’s policy direction and national priorities for the year ahead.
The address, in line with Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution, is expected to focus on the state of the economy, job creation, infrastructure development, energy supply, and measures to stabilise the Cedi and ease the cost of living.
Members of Parliament of Ghana, members of the diplomatic corps, traditional leaders and other invited guests are expected to be present for the highly anticipated address.
The President is also expected to update the House on progress made in key sectors, including education, healthcare, agriculture and the implementation of social intervention programmes.
With growing public interest in economic recovery efforts, many will be listening closely for concrete policy measures aimed at boosting investor confidence and accelerating growth.
Political analysts say the address will set the tone for legislative-business relations in the coming months, particularly as the government pushes for the passage of critical bills to support its agenda.
The Minority and Majority Caucuses are also expected to respond to the address in the days ahead, offering their respective assessments of the government’s performance and proposed roadmap.
Today’s SONA comes at a crucial time, with Ghanaians keenly awaiting clarity on how the government intends to navigate prevailing economic challenges while delivering on its campaign promises.
