Amnesty: Wife of jailed former MASLOC official cries foul over delayed appeal process

The wife of Daniel Axim, a former Head of Operations at the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), currently serving a five-year jail term at Nsawam Prison, has raised concerns over what she describes as deliberate attempts to frustrate her husband’s appeal process.
In a statement, she disclosed that Mr. Axim filed a Notice of Appeal on May 2, 2024, declaring his intention to challenge his conviction.
However, more than a year later, the official records required for the appeal are still not ready.
“It is regrettable to say that, more than one year on, the records of appeal are not ready.
All attempts by his lawyer and myself to follow up to secure the records were unsuccessful,” she lamented.
According to her, the delay suggests interference by “unseen hands” seeking to deny her husband the opportunity to pursue justice through the courts.
Mr. Axim, who was convicted in 2024, has already served one year of his five-year sentence.
His legal team insists he has a strong case for appeal and has expressed frustration over the prolonged administrative hurdles.
The development raises questions about judicial delays and their impact on the constitutional right of convicted persons to appeal their cases.

Dear Sir,
PETITION FOR SPECIAL AMNESTY OR PRESIDENTIAL PARDON
My name is Daniel Axim, a former Head of Operations of MASLOC, currently in Nsawam Prison. I was convicted for 5 years and I have served one year.
My conviction was merely on political grounds since the evidence available proved to the contrary. The escape of the main accused (Mrs Sedina Tamakloe Attionu) caused the NPP to sacrifice me for their political gain.
After my conviction on 16th April 2024, I served my Notice of Appeal on 2nd of May 2024, declaring my intention to Appeal the judgment and my records has since not been provided. On the 13th January 2025, I filed an affidavit to compel the Registrat of the High Court to provide me with the records. The Appeal Court granted my request and gave the Registrat a month to provide the records. Till date, my records are not ready. I therefore filed an application for bail pending appeal which was opposed by the current Attorney General and heard on the 5th May 2025. My bail application was dismissed without any solid grounds since my case is highly politically motivated. For my appeal records to delay till date also suggest that some unseen hands are manipulating the system to my disadvantage.
I have been a strong NDC member and served in various capacity in the party including the position of Deputy ICT Director for Greater Accra region for 3 years. I've also played a role in the compilation of the pink sheet after the 2020 election. I've served in other positions since 1996 in Ho Central Ashaiman constituencies and on KNIST campus.
I'm humbly pleading with you to assist me in getting my freedom since I've developed some health related complications recently.
I pray my appeal will meet your kind consideration.
Thank you.
Yours faithfully,
Daniel Axim
