Pressure group Arise Ghana has officially presented a petition to the United States Embassy in Accra, demanding the extradition of former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, to Ghana to respond to legal processes.

According to the group, the move forms part of its broader campaign to ensure accountability and respect for the rule of law, insisting that public office holders must not be shielded from scrutiny. The petition was submitted on the fourth and final day of the first phase of the group’s demonstrations at the US Embassy.

Addressing the media after the submission, the Director of Field Operations of the United Party, Hopeson Ardoye, called on US authorities to support Ghana’s efforts by facilitating the return of Mr. Ofori-Atta. He maintained that the action is driven by public interest rather than partisan considerations.

Mr. Ardoye stressed that the protest reflects the concerns of ordinary citizens, pointing to the heavy security presence at the venue as evidence of the seriousness of the matter. He expressed confidence that the petition would achieve its intended outcome, reiterating that the demand is for transparency and accountability, not political victimisation.

Meanwhile, a convenor of Arise Ghana, Bernard Mornah, announced that the group has temporarily halted its picketing activities to allow time for a response from the US Embassy.

He indicated that the protest has been suspended for about a week, adding that the group will determine its next steps based on the feedback received from the Embassy.
