Kennedy Agyapong leads final NPP delegate polls, Bawumia trails with 36.24%
A recent report by financial economist and lecturer Dr. Evans Duah has revealed Kennedy Ohene Agyapong as the frontrunner in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming presidential primary, signalling a potential shift in the party’s internal dynamics following its 2024 electoral loss.
The study, conducted across three waves and covering all 16 regions, surveyed 40,988 delegates, with 31,556 responses validated.
According to the final wave of the poll, which accounted for the best-case allocation of undecided voters, Agyapong leads with 52.59% of delegate support, while former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia trails with 36.24%.
The report highlights Agyapong’s “largest positive net movement,” largely attributed to strong engagement in delegate-heavy regions such as Ashanti and Greater Accra.
Dr. Duah explained that the findings reflect a “structured consolidation” phase, where delegates reassess candidates based on coalition-building skills and potential to recover the party’s electoral fortunes.
Bawumia’s decline in support has been linked to challenges in expanding influence in the southern regions, whereas Dr. Bryan Acheampong’s gains have affected margins without threatening the top positions.
“This isn’t just numbers; it’s a narrative of resilience,” Dr. Duah said, noting that Agyapong’s ground-level strategy and outreach to delegates appear to be driving his lead.
The report suggests that as the January 31 primary approaches, candidates’ ability to consolidate support and engage undecided delegates will be critical in determining the party’s flagbearer.
