“Sleep on Dr Adutwum at your own peril” — Adutwum spokesperson responds to Bryan Agyapong video
The spokesperson for New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful and former Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, Opoku Mensah, has warned NPP flagbearer aspirants, especially Dr Bryan Achampong, against underestimating Dr Adutwum following a viral video in which Bryan Agyapong was seen downplaying Dr Adutwum's relevance in the party’s flagbearer contest.
Opoku Mensah described the comments in the viral video, as well as similar pronouncements on some platforms, as mischievous attempts to mislead party delegates ahead of the January 31, 2026, vote.
According to him, efforts to portray Dr Adutwum as not being a serious contender do not reflect the reality on the ground within the party.
He argued that some aspirants have kept their names in circulation largely through attacks and jabs at opponents, without clearly articulating why they deserve the support of delegates.
Opoku Mensah said engagements with party delegates across the country indicate that many understand the task ahead and have settled on Dr Adutwum as their preferred choice.
He described Dr Adutwum as a clean candidate with no political baggage, adding that he understands the rank and file of the party and the expectations of delegates.
According to the Adutwum spokesperson, the NPP has made it clear that its next leader must be a generational thinker and a proven reformer capable of repositioning the party for future electoral success.
He said these qualities are embedded in Dr Adutwum’s public service record and leadership vision.
Opoku Mensah maintained that the delegates' decision will become evident when votes are counted on January 31.
