Commercial transport operators across Ghana have welcomed the recent reduction in fuel prices, describing it as a significant relief that has helped lower their operational costs.

In a press release dated January 6, 2026, the operators expressed gratitude to the government and the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) for the intervention, noting that the move has brought some stability to the transport sector.

However, the operators raised concerns about the conduct of some drivers who continue to charge unapproved transport fares despite the reduction in fuel prices.

According to them, such practices undermine the efforts of law-abiding operators and place an unfair burden on commuters.

The group is therefore calling on Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), as well as the Ghana Police Service, to intensify enforcement of approved fare structures across the country.

They are urging authorities to ensure that drivers who flout fare regulations are sanctioned, stressing that strict enforcement will help restore fairness and discipline within the transport system.

The commercial transport operators reaffirmed their commitment to providing affordable, reliable, and quality transport services to the Ghanaian public, while working with authorities to maintain order and fairness in the sector.
