Mahama reacts to viral Kade SHS video, demands justice for assaulted Teacher
President John Dramani Mahama has strongly denounced the growing incidents of violence against teachers in Ghana, raising alarm over how one widely publicized case was handled.
Speaking at the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) Delegates Conference, the President referenced a viral video that surfaced in October 2025 involving students of Kade Senior High School. In the footage, a mathematics teacher was physically attacked after he allegedly stopped students from engaging in examination malpractice.
President Mahama expressed deep dissatisfaction with the outcome of the case, noting that although the incident was reported to the police, no official disciplinary or legal action was taken against the students. Instead, the matter was reportedly resolved privately after discussions between the students’ parents and the teacher.
He questioned the implications of such an approach, stressing that an act of violence should not be treated as a personal dispute. According to him, the assault constituted a criminal offense and deserved to be addressed through proper legal channels.
The President further criticized the decision to rely solely on monetary compensation, arguing that it neither delivers justice nor discourages similar behavior in the future. He emphasized that even if the teacher chose not to pursue the case further, the students should have been formally processed by the justice system and subjected to corrective measures.
As part of his remarks, President Mahama suggested that, at minimum, the students should have been required to demonstrate good conduct over a specified period as a sign that accountability had been enforced.
He ended his address with a clear assurance to educators nationwide, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to protecting teachers and tackling any acts of aggression against them decisively.
