The Minister for Communications and Digitalisation has issued a directive to the National Communications Authority (NCA) to suspend the broadcasting license of DStv Ghana by August 7, 2025, if the company fails to revise its subscription prices downward.

The move comes amid growing public outcry over recent price hikes by the satellite television provider, which many consumers have described as unjustified given current economic challenges.

In the directive, Minister Sam Geoarge Nartey emphasised that the current pricing regime is not in line with prevailing market conditions and urged MultiChoice, operators of DStv, to take immediate steps to address public concerns or face regulatory action.

“If DStv fails to take corrective action by August 7, the NCA is directed to suspend their broadcasting license until further notice,” he said.

The directive marks a significant regulatory intervention aimed at protecting consumer interests and ensuring fairness in the broadcasting and pay-TV sector in terms of pricing, particularly in neighbouring Nigeria

The NCA is expected to monitor the situation and provide updates in the coming days.

DStv has yet to issue a formal response to the directive.
