Community leaders engage Korle Woko residents over concerns about alleged prostitution
Community leaders in Ga Mashie, led by Abola Youth Leader Nuumo Osibrimu and King Nii Tetteh Mowaamor, together with other traditional and community figures, have visited residents of Korle Woko to discuss growing concerns over alleged prostitution activities in the area and their perceived impact on the social fabric of the community.
The engagement formed part of ongoing efforts by traditional authorities and community leaders to address social issues affecting the wellbeing of residents, particularly young people, and to promote peace, security, and development within Ga Mashie.
Speaking during the visit, the leaders expressed concern that the alleged increase in prostitution-related activities in parts of Korle Woko could expose the youth to negative influences, contribute to insecurity, and undermine the values and traditions of the community if left unchecked.
Nuumo Osibrimu emphasised the importance of protecting the younger generation from social vices and ensuring that communities remain safe and conducive environments for children and families to thrive. He noted that preserving the moral and cultural values of Ga Mashie requires the active participation of all residents and stakeholders.
King Nii Tetteh Mowaamor, on his part, called for stronger collaboration between traditional authorities, residents, and state institutions in addressing the issue. He stressed that community challenges cannot be solved by a single group alone and that collective responsibility is essential in safeguarding the future of the area.
The leaders appealed to law enforcement agencies to intensify efforts to enforce existing laws and regulations while maintaining professionalism and respect for the rights of all individuals involved. They noted that effective law enforcement remains a key component in maintaining order and ensuring the safety of residents.
In addition to enforcement measures, the delegation highlighted the need for sustained public education and awareness campaigns aimed at addressing the root causes of prostitution and other social challenges. They encouraged government agencies, civil society organizations, religious bodies, and community groups to work together to provide support systems and opportunities for vulnerable young people.
Residents who participated in the engagement also shared their concerns about the effects of the alleged activities on the image of the community, public safety, and the wellbeing of children and families living in the area. Many welcomed the intervention by traditional leaders and expressed support for initiatives aimed at restoring order and strengthening community values.
The visit concluded with a call for unity and cooperation among residents, traditional authorities, security agencies, and other stakeholders to confront the challenges facing Korle Woko and the wider Ga Mashie community.
The leaders expressed optimism that through dialogue, collaboration, and sustained action, the community would be able to protect its youth, preserve its cultural heritage, and restore peace and order for the benefit of present and future generations.
