Dagbon Council sets July 16 for third-day prayers following burial of late Yaa-Naa Abukari II
The Dagbon Traditional Council has announced that the third-day prayers for the late Overlord of Dagbon, Ndan Yaa-Naa Abukari II, will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2026.
The Islamic mourning prayers are scheduled to take place at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi starting at 10 AM.
Members of the public are invited to attend the service to offer prayers for the late King.
The announcement follows the burial of Yaa-Naa Abukari II, which took place in the early hours of Monday, July 13, 2026, within the sacred grounds of the Gbewaa Palace, in keeping with Dagbon customs and Islamic traditions.
The late monarch, who also served as the President of the Dagbon Traditional Council and the Northern Region House of Chiefs, passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2026.
In its statement, the council described the late traditional ruler as a symbol of peace and unity whose reign focused on fostering harmony and development throughout the kingdom.
The council urged the public and the people of Dagbon to honour his legacy by maintaining peace and avoiding disputes during this period of mourning.
Arrangements for the final funeral rites will be communicated by the Council at a later date in accordance with royal protocol and Dagbon tradition.
