Defence Minister hosts Canadian and Dutch Ambassadors

The Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, last week held separate meetings with the Ambassadors of Canada and the Netherlands to discuss matters of mutual interest, including regional peace and stability as well as Ghana’s ongoing fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.
The meetings, held at the Ministry of Defence, focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation, enhancing security partnerships, and exploring joint efforts to tackle environmental degradation caused by illegal mining activities.
Dr. Omane Boamah described both engagements as fruitful, noting that the support and collaboration of international partners are essential to sustaining peace and protecting Ghana’s natural resources.
“The discussions reaffirmed our shared commitment to promoting peace, security, and environmental protection.
The fight against galamsey remains a top priority, and we welcome all partnerships that support this national effort,” he said.
The Ambassadors expressed their countries’ continued interest in supporting Ghana's development agenda, particularly in areas related to governance, security, and sustainable environmental practices.
