The Member of Parliament (MP) for Dorma Central, John Kwame Adu Jack, has expressed deep concern over the tragic incident that claimed the lives of eight traders who were travelling to Burkina Faso to purchase tomatoes.

According to him, the unfortunate incident should serve as a wake-up call for political leaders to reflect and take decisive action to address critical challenges facing the country.

He stressed that it is time for politicians to sit down and think deeply about doing the right things to prevent such avoidable tragedies.

MP Adu Jack noted that the deaths could have been prevented if Ghana had strengthened its agricultural sector, particularly in tomato production.

He explained that Ghana is endowed with fertile land capable of producing tomatoes on a large scale, which could meet local demand and even create opportunities for export.

He lamented that the women lost their lives simply because they had to travel outside the country in search of tomatoes for their businesses, an issue he believes could be resolved through proper planning and investment in local agriculture.

While mourning the deceased, the lawmaker emphasised the need for national reflection and collective responsibility to ensure that such incidents do not occur again.

He called on all Ghanaians to unite in mourning the departed souls and to work together toward building a more self-sufficient and resilient nation.
