Duayaw Nkwanta chiefs deny involvement in illegal mining
According to him, such claims are false, unfounded, and intended to tarnish the image of the traditional council and municipal authorities.
Speaking on behalf of the Duayaw Nkwanta Traditional Council, Nana Kokroko revealed that following the allegations, the council conducted a joint inspection with the Tano North Municipal Security Council at the Bisi River. Their findings, he said, confirmed that the water bodies remain clean and intact.
“We are committed to protecting our environment and will not sit idly by while false information is spread to destroy our reputation,” Nana Kokroko stressed.
“We urge residents to support our efforts in safeguarding our natural resources. Anyone found deliberately fabricating and circulating such misinformation will face the necessary consequences.”
MCE Pius Opoku also described the allegations as unfortunate, insisting that both the municipal authorities and traditional leaders are committed to promoting responsible mining practices.
“The water bodies are clean, and even after yesterday’s rainfall, they remain pristine,” he assured.
Local farmers who rely on rivers for irrigation and agriculture also expressed confidence in the chiefs and the MCE, stating that they believe efforts are being made to protect water sources and the environment.
