EC suspends district assembly, unit committee by-elections indefinitely
The Electoral Commission (EC) has halted all upcoming District Assembly and Unit Committee by-elections, announcing that the processes have been postponed until further notice.
In a notice issued on November 3, 2025, and signed by Fred Tetteh, Deputy Director in charge of Research, Monitoring and Evaluation, the Commission said new dates will be announced once arrangements are completed. No explanation was provided for the suspension.
The EC assured the public that additional information will be shared in due course.
The by-elections, originally slated for Tuesday, November 11, 2025, were intended to fill vacancies arising from the death or resignation of Assembly and Unit Committee Members, as required under the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), as amended by Act 940.
