Agrointroductions Ghana launches REDCENTROS project to boost environmental awareness in Accra schools and wildlife institutions
Agrointroductions Ghana, a non-profit environmental organisation has implemented the REDCENTROS Project in Accra, aimed at creating environmental awareness.
Under the REDCENTROS Project, Agrointroductions Ghana implemented a series of environmental education and wildlife conservation activities in Accra between January and February 2026.
These activities form part of the project’s objective to strengthen environmental awareness, support wildlife conservation, and improve the capacity of institutions and communities through education.
The interventions in Accra included the delivery of two-session environmental education programmes across five schools, environmental education and wildlife management workshops for staff of the Accra Zoo and Shai Hills Nature Reserve (SHNR), in line with the Wildlife Resources Management Act, 2023 (Act 1115); and coordination with Accra Zoo and Shai Hills Reserve management to educate tourists as well as integrate REDCENTROS activities into routine operations.
According to Hamza Abdullah, the Cordinator of Agrointroductions Ghana, the activities were guided by Ghana’s wildlife governance framework, particularly the Wildlife Conservation Regulations, 1971 (L.I. 685) and the Wildlife Resources Management Act, 2023 (Act 1115).
In all, a total of 552 pupils from 5 schools participated in the activities, comprising 144 females and 408 males, whiles 68 tourists benefited from the educational outreach. Each school’s engagement was structured into two sessions to ensure manageable group sizes, encourage participation, and tailor content to the learners’ age and level of understanding.
Teaching methods included presentations, storytelling, guided discussions, real-life examples, group exercises, and question-and-answer sessions.
The beneficiary schools were Osu Presby Salem Basic Boys School, the Achimota Basic and Junior High School, Brighter Roses Academy, Wisdom Ways Academy and Shai Osudoku Secondary Technical School.
As part of the project, environmental education and wildlife management workshops were delivered to senior management staff of the Shai Hills Nature Reserve (SHNR) and the Accra Zoological Gardens.
The engagement was designed to strengthen strategic leadership, institutional governance, and managerial capacity in wildlife management and environmental education, in line with the Wildlife Resources Management Act, 2023 (Act 1115).
A total of 13 senior management staff participated in the workshops, comprising 6 females and 7 males, drawn from both institutions. Participants included senior officers with responsibility for policy implementation, operational oversight, wildlife protection, tourism management, law enforcement coordination, and environmental education delivery.
Agrointroductions Ghana is a non-profit environmental organisation working in the areas of biodiversity conservation, climate change adaptation, sustainable agriculture, environmental education, and youth leadership development. In line with its mandate, the organization implements school and community-based environmental education programmes aimed at strengthening understanding of Ghana’s wildlife heritage and promoting responsible natural resource stewardship.
